The Villa Marina hotel threw us a curve ball when someone reserved the whole hotel for the entire month of May. Mexico is always a challenge! We went down yesterday and secured our spot at a Baja landmark that will be even nicer. If you already made reservations with JC for the Villa Marina, no worries, they have been moved to the Desert Inn.
This is a new hotel for 2013, and reservations are handled by our old friend in Ensenada, Juan Carlos. The Desert Inn has been around under various names for a long time and is an epicenter of activity during the Baja 1000. It is a couple blocks south of where we stayed last time but is still walking distance from all the downtown activities. The rooms are adequate, there is hot water in the showers and friendly staff keeps things clean. The pool area is in a central courtyard where we will be serving tacos and beer. Awards on the final day will be given out here. Bike parking out front will be roped off and patrolled by private security. If you have a chase truck there is some gated parking behind the hotel for a small fee (worth it).
Making reservations here is easy, you can email: firstname.lastname@example.org and pay via paypal or make other arrangements. JC's cell number is 646-160-2454. Rooms are $89 per night, two night minimum. If you already made reservations at the Villa Marina hotel through JC, your reservations have been moved to the Desert Inn, so you are good to go. If this hotel fills up (likely) there are other hotels nearby, and JC can help you get reservations there.
